Sheriff’s bomb experts dismantled an explosive device that was found in a Santa Paula mailbox in which a second bomb already had detonated, authorities said.
A county road crew alerted the Sheriff’s Department after finding the shattered mailbox Thursday at a residence in the 11700 block of Foothill Road, Sheriff’s Senior Deputy Darryl Dunn said.
No one was reported injured by the blast.
Responding deputies found the second, unexploded bomb and safely removed it, Dunn said.
Bomb specialists took the device to the sheriff’s bomb range in Camarillo, where they disarmed it.
An investigation is continuing, Dunn said.
