Nelson, 6 feet 3 and 200 pounds, has been described as a quarterback with great potential since his days at Servite High School. He has completed 108 of 172 for 1,413 yards on the season. He is fifth on the Hornets’ all-time passing list and on pace to take the top spot by season’s end.
Other notables:
* Curt Bowman had six goals as Golden West, the top-ranked water polo team in California, beat No. 2 Long Beach, 14-8.
* Jeff Clayton of Orange Coast rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns in 18 carries as the Pirates beat Grossmont, 37-20.
