Forum Planned to Discuss Tax Bill
Reacting Tuesday to complaints from property owners who say they received excessive or erroneous tax bills, Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich announced that he will hold a community forum next week.
Hundreds of property owners, living mostly on large lots in remote areas of the county, have seen their tax bills increase this year by hundreds or thousands of dollars because of a new park district assessment that will generate $48 million a year for refurbishment of parks and recreation facilities.
Antonovich said 139 people so far have requested that the county review tax bills that rose as much as $21,000 from the previous year. County officials have said that property owners must still pay the first installment by Dec. 10 or be subject to penalties.
Members of the Assessment Appeals Committee will be on hand to answer questions at the forum, which is set for Monday at 7 p.m. at the Palmdale Cultural Center, 704 E. Palmdale Blvd.
