Candidates for an open seat on the Moorpark school board will participate in a public forum Thursday that will also feature speakers on either side of Propositions 172 and 174.
Moorpark residents Gary Cabriales, Ted Green and Helen Taylor will face off at the forum, which is sponsored by various community groups at Moorpark Community Center, 799 Moorpark Ave., from 7 to 9 p.m.
All three are seeking the school board seat vacated by former board president Sam Nainoa. He resigned in June, citing work obligations. The term runs through November, 1994.
Ventura County Dist. Atty. Michael D. Bradbury is scheduled to appear on behalf of supporters of Proposition 172, the ballot initiative to extend a half-cent sales tax for funding law enforcement and public safety agencies. H. Jere Robings, president of the Ventura County Alliance of Taxpayers, is scheduled to speak against the initiative.
Speakers were also expected to tangle on the pros and cons of Proposition 174, the school choice initiative.
