Two men whose car was stopped for allegedly speeding were arrested after Glendale police found a cache of weapons in the car, including more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition, assault rifles and explosive devices, authorities said Sunday.
The driver was armed with a Glock 9-millimeter pistol, and police said a search of the 1993 Thunderbird yielded other weapons: another Glock pistol, two .45-caliber Colt pistols, two AK-47 assault rifles, two bulletproof vests, two homemade explosive devices and smoke grenades.
The two, who were stopped on Pacific Avenue near the Ventura Freeway at 10:15 p.m. Saturday, were booked on suspicion of robbery, based on the supposition that they were coming from or going to a robbery. They face charges on multiple weapons violations, police said.
One suspect, who has not been identified, was being held without bail. The second man, whose name police declined to release, was being held on $20,000 bail.
