Six county teachers are among 57 people who will compete in the 1994 California Teachers of the Year program.
A panel of teachers, parents, students and administrators will select five teachers of the year by Nov. 1, after visiting nominees’ classrooms.
County nominees are Christina Brown of the Otto A. Fischer School in Orange; Vicki Newman of McGaugh Elementary School in Los Alamitos; Barbara Ruth Osterkamp of Silverado Continuation School in Mission Viejo; Cheryl Ann Park of Century High School in Santa Ana; Irene S. Patrick of John O. Tynes Elementary School in Placentia; and Reema Zoumut of Claremont High School in Garden Grove.
“We should all stand up to honor these 57 outstanding individuals,” acting state Supt. of Public Instruction William D. Dawson said in a statement.
