VENTURA : Students to Discuss Voucher Initiative

Although they have held back from taking a stand on the school-voucher initiative, student leaders at Ventura College will hold two forums to inform classmates and the public about the issue.
The college’s associated student body will hold both forums Wednesday. To accommodate both day and evening students, one session will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the campus quadrangle and the other will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the college theater.
Local leaders of both the pro- and anti-voucher movement will present their views and answer questions on Proposition 174, Student Body President Dan Collins said.
But Collins said student leaders at Ventura College will refrain from trying to convince classmates how to vote on it, even though the student governments at both Oxnard and Moorpark colleges have come out strongly against the initiative.
“It is such a hot topic,” Collins said. “We don’t want to inflict our opinions on the students.” For information, call the student activities office at 654-6487.
