VENTURA : City Expected to OK Development Plan
- Share via
The Ventura City Council today is expected to approve a plan to direct city funds to public projects that would encourage business development.
The Blueprint for Capital Investment outlines specific projects in different neighborhoods of the city that are scheduled to begin within two years.
Projects in the plan include constructing a city landmark near the Ventura Pier, redesigning the California Street freeway bridge, and removing or trimming trees that block business signs and visibility.
The plan calls for working closely with business owners to identify problems in neighborhoods and develop solutions. Ideas include establishing a design-assistance program that would provide financial assistance to businesses for signs and improving window fronts.
To make the city more attractive and accessible for tourists, the plan also suggests improvements to lighting in many areas, and upgrading street, parking and directional signs.
The neighborhoods receiving the most attention would be the beach area, downtown and mid-town.
Funding for the projects would come from a variety of sources, such as the city’s capital improvement program, federal grants and redevelopment funds.
