Nissan to Alter Pay System for Managers: Nissan Motors, Japan’s No. 2 auto maker, will abolish its pay system based on seniority in favor of performance-based payment for the company’s 2,900 managers, the Nihon Keizai newspaper said. The new pay scale will be introduced next July, it said. In the future, the company is planning to adopt a performance pay system for all its employees. The move is aimed at improving the employees’ productivity, the newspaper said. Nissan reported on Oct. 18 that its domestic sales declined 8.5% to 533,009 vehicles for the March-Sept. period. Production for the same period fell 13.1% to 900,609, the company said.
