Northwest Announces Fare Cuts: Northwest Airlines said it cut fares by up to 40% on restricted tickets purchased by Friday. The non-refundable advanced purchase tickets are good through Jan. 15 for travel within most of North America. Passengers may fly for $218 round-trip between Los Angeles and Seattle, a 39% savings. Northwest, the nation’s fourth-largest carrier, last cut its domestic fares in late September for travel through mid-December.
