Four distinguished former students of Golden West College have been selected as 1993 honorees of the community college’s Alumni Pillar of Achievement.
The pillar, erected in 1991 on campus, marks the names of Golden West alumni recognized for achievements in their fields.
Alumni being honored this year are Huntington Beach Police Chief Ronald E. Lowenberg; Enriqueta Lopez Ramos of Santa Ana, who is a Spanish-language professor at Cypress College and a trustee of Rancho Santiago Community College District; Sam Nguyen of Denver, a research chemist; and Brenda Premo of Sacramento, deputy director of the state Department of Rehabilitation.
The honorees will be inducted during campus ceremonies at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 5. The event, which is coordinated by the nonprofit Golden West College Foundation, will be free and open to the public.
Glenda Blackburn, executive director of the Golden West College Foundation, said the Pillar of Achievement awards help motivate students.
“To our students, successful alumni serve as role models of inspiration and motivation,” Blackburn said. “Successful alumni are visible validation of the community college education and a tribute to the faculty and staff who provide quality education.”
