LANCASTER — An attack in a Lancaster apartment left one woman fatally shot and another clinging to life Wednesday, but their baby daughters were left unharmed, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman said.
Lisa Juve, 21, died in the apartment that she rented in the 600 block of East Avenue I about 10:15 a.m. after she was shot in the upper torso, spokeswoman Benita Hinojos said.
Her friend, Diana Cross, 22, also of Lancaster, was hit at least once in the upper body and was listed in critical condition at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said.
Sheriff’s detectives have no suspects or motives in the attack, Hinojos said.
Juve’s 15-month-old daughter and Cross’ 2-month-old daughter were found safe in the apartment, Hinojos said.
The children were placed in the custody of relatives. A male friend of the victims, who was not present at the time of the shootings, called 911 about 9:30 a.m. after he went to the apartment and found the wounded women, authorities said.
After deputies arrived, Juve died and Cross was rushed to the hospital, Hinojos said.
At the Sierra Vista Apartments on Wednesday, yellow tape cordoned off Juve’s ground-floor apartment and an adjacent carport.
A neighbor, who declined to be identified, said Juve was attending beauty school. “She was a real sweet girl and a good friend to have,” she said.
