FULLERTON : Math Night Adds Up for Parents, Children
- Share via
Teachers and the principal of Sunset Lane Elementary School will work with students and their parents tonight at a family math night intended to enhance students’ interest in the subject.
“The kids just get excited to have their parents working with them,” said fifth-grade teacher Joy Porter, who will be at the event.
Porter said children and their parents will work in groups on problems that require math skills.
In one exercise, participants will build a bridge out of dry spaghetti and marshmallows, Porter said. The idea is to demonstrate structural strength, she said.
Principal Sue Faassen said 90 children have expressed interest in the program, but more are welcome.
“It’s really fun to see the parents working with their own children,” Faassen said.
The school plans to hold a family science night in March.
Parents who want to attend the math night should call the school at (714) 447-7750. The program will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the school, 2030 Sunset Lane.
