New Forecast to Show a Jump in Jobs

After two years of gloomy forecasts at the Orange County Economic Outlook Conference, economist James Doti is promising a somewhat upbeat prognostication when the annual event gets underway this morning.
Doti, president of Chapman University in Orange and a founder of its economic research center, said Tuesday that he will unveil a new economic indicator chart that has local employment up after several years of decline.
Doti will be part of a panel of economists offering global, national and regional outlooks at the county Chamber of Commerce-sponsored event from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Anaheim Hilton and Towers.
Other speakers include Leslie Appleton-Young, chief economist for the California Assn. of Realtors, who is scheduled to offer an Orange County perspective on the rather grim statewide home-sales forecast she delivered two weeks ago at her group’s annual convention; Supervisor Harriett M. Wieder, delivering the State of the County address; and Terry Hartshorn, Pacificare Health Systems president, discussing the Clinton Administration’s health-care plan.
