THE FLOOD OF ‘93: America’s Greatest Natural Disaster photographed and reported by the Associated Press: $14.95; 128 pp., paperback original). The numbers are staggering: 17 million acres--an area the size of New Jersey--were inundated; some parts of Kansas and Missouri got more than 3 1/2 feet of rain. The dramatic pictures of houses, cities and farms awash in muddy water are even more compelling. This compilation of news stories and photographs provides a lot of information, but it’s presented a la USA Today, with lots of graphs, charts, short profiles, etc. Recent reports of additional rain in the Midwest suggest AP may have issued the book prematurely.
