THE PINK ROSARY by Ricardo Means Ybarra (Latin American Literary Review Press, 2300 Palmer St., Pittsburgh, Pa. 15218: $16.95; 205 pp., paperback original). This darkly promising first novel depicts a young Angeleno struggling with the mixed legacy of his Anglo mother and Latino father. A well-respected poet, Ybarra writes with an immediacy that enables the reader to share his characters’ thoughts and feelings. However, the dramatic conclusion of the novel fails to resolve all the strands of its tangled plot.
