Murdoch Buys N.Y. Post: After months of turmoil and three separate shutdowns, the embattled New York Post was officially purchased by media baron Rupert Murdoch, just days after he vowed he had no interest in the tabloid. The $27-million purchase came as the Post returned to the streets after a three-day shutdown caused by a labor dispute. Murdoch closed the newspaper on Monday when 290 editorial, clerical and advertising employees represented by the Newspaper Guild walked out. When the drivers and press workers refused to cross the picket line late Monday, Murdoch shut down the paper and canceled his purchase.
