LOS ANGELES : 7 Groups Get Grants From Olympics Fund

The Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles, the group responsible for disseminating Southern California’s share of profits from the 1984 Olympics, announced seven new grants totaling $293,242 to areas affected by last year’s riots.

The largest grant, $167,000, went to the New ADAGE (Alternative for Drug and Gang Elimination) youth development program, which offers after-school sports, youth club and job-training activities for 1,500 boys and girls, primarily of African-American and Latino heritage.

Other grants included $59,000 to the Heart of Los Angeles Youth program, $25,000 to the New Mt. Calvary Sports Project, $20,000 to the Hoover Street Gym, $10,000 to the Golden Youth Opportunity Assn., $9,742 to the National Football League Youth Education Town and $2,500 to the Reynaldo Brown Youth Foundation.

The foundation’s grants and programs since 1984 now total more than $50 million.
