A 35-year-old San Gabriel man was arrested Saturday in the death of his 23-month-old son, who died after being shaken violently, sheriff’s deputies said.
Luis Flores was arrested by San Gabriel police at his home Saturday evening after an autopsy determined that the boy, Adrian Holguin, had suffered fatal injuries from having been shaken, deputies said.
Flores told authorities that he was awakened early Friday morning by his son’s screams. He said the child had fallen out of bed and had stopped breathing. After he called 911, Flores said, he tried to administer CPR, but the boy died about half an hour later, shortly after paramedics arrived.
An autopsy Saturday revealed that the child had been shaken to death, deputies said, and Flores was arrested. He was being held without bail in the San Gabriel jail. Arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday, authorities said.
