St. Monica 28, Santa Clara 12--Santa Clara (0-2) held the edge in yardage, 264-203, but hurt itself with two interceptions and a fumble at Channel Islands High.
St. Monica quarterback Oscar Casillas completed only four of 16 passes for 46 yards, but three produced touchdowns. Casillas found Matt Kennedy on an 18-yard scoring pass in the second quarter to make it 14-0.
After Saint quarterback Albert Carranza (six of 15 passing for 101 yards, two interceptions) scored on a one-yard run to cut the deficit to 14-6, Jason Jones returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to make it 20-6 at halftime.
Santa Clara’s Juan Hernandez capped the scoring with a one-yard run. Paul Soliz led Santa Clara in rushing with 82 yards on 16 carries. St. Monica is 1-1.
