Rhetoric Does Disservice to School Success Stories

* I was offended by the headline on your Valley Parenting section, “When Teachers Fail” (Aug. 20).
While the article itself was a thoughtful review of issues involving teacher-student conflict, the headline was an unfair and gratuitous attack.
Our schools face many challenges, and there are many areas in which all of us can stand to improve. Unfortunately, it has become all too commonplace to throw around the word fail when discussing public education. Such rhetoric does a great disservice to the remarkable success stories achieved in our schools every day. Our overworked and under-appreciated teachers deserve better.
I hope your future coverage will consider the issues without resorting to such cheap shots.
