Westlake 13, Ventura 12--Westlake linebacker Eric Guenther blocked an extra-point attempt in the third quarter to preserve the win at Newbury Park High. Ventura quarterback Erik Olsen scored from six yards to cut the Warriors’ lead to 13-12.

Trailing, 6-0, after a quarter, Westlake (2-0) scored twice in the second quarter. Quarterback Kevin Crook hit Simon Erickson on a 45-yard scoring pass and Billy Miller with a four-yard strike. Crook completed 21 of 36 passes for 323 yards. Mike Leibin had eight receptions for 108 yards.
