The wife and stepson of a Long Beach minister were ordered held on $1-million bail each Thursday after they were charged with plotting to have the clergyman killed.
Perma Jean Pritchett, 32, and the stepson, Jessie D. Pritchett, 19, entered not guilty pleas at their arraignment in Long Beach Municipal Court. They were ordered to stay away from Charles Pritchett, the target of the alleged plot and a minister at First Shining Light Church in North Long Beach, after Deputy Dist. Atty. William Smith accused them of trying to reach the minister by phone since their arrests this week.
Police had been tipped off to the alleged plot and staged a phony murder scene, with Charles Pritchett playing the victim.
When photographs of the scene were shown to Perma Jean Pritchett, authorities said, she made incriminating statements and was taken into custody.
