A series of appearances by Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres in Los Angeles scheduled for Sunday and Monday have been canceled because of his need to return to Israel for debate on the new Middle East peace accords, according to the Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles.
Peres’ visit, designed to help explain the peace accords, was to have included a meeting with more than 2,000 Jewish community leaders Sunday night at Sinai Temple in Westwood.
“The Jewish Federation Council and all of the residents of the Jewish community understand that his active participation in the Knesset debates regarding the peace process is very important at this time in Israel’s history,” said council Executive Vice President John Fishel.
