SIMI VALLEY : 5-Day Carnival Opens Annual Celebration

The five-day carnival that is the centerpiece of the annual Simi Valley Days celebration begins today at Madera Road and Los Angeles Avenue in Simi Valley.
The event, which features food, rides, entertainment and more, is expected to draw thousands between its 5 p.m. opening today and 10 p.m. closing Sunday.
“The carnival is the largest public event in Simi Valley,” said David Yasman, Simi Valley Days chairman. “It helps the local nonprofit, service organizations by giving them their main fund-raiser for the year.”
It’s also a time for residents to get together and celebrate their city, said Scott Lane, finance co-chairman. “There will be times this week when people in the community will see people they haven’t seen all year,” he said.
The carnival will be open from 5 to 10 p.m. tonight and Thursday, 5 p.m. to midnight Friday, noon to midnight Saturday, and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children.
The Army National Guard will introduce carnival-goers to a 20-foot-long, 26-ton Howitzer gun, a personnel carrier and other items and weapons to be displayed by Desert Storm veterans.
