CHATSWORTH — Los Angeles police suspect a possible soured drug deal led to an early morning shooting in a Chatsworth alley that left a 19-year-old man dead on Monday.
Jesus Garcia died at 5:20 a.m.--about an hour after he was shot once in the chest in an alley behind an apartment building in the 8800 block of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, said Detective Tony Foti of the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Valley Division. “Indications are this was a possible drug deal that went south,” Foti said.
Police said Garcia, after being shot, ran into the apartment and collapsed.
