SANTA ANA — One man was killed and two others were wounded by a gunman in a passing car early Monday during what police described as a gang-related shooting.
Christian Meza Madera, 19, of Santa Ana was pronounced dead on arrival at UCI Medical Center in Orange from a gunshot wound to the abdomen, said Santa Ana Police Lt. Earl Porter.
The incident took place at about 1:30 a.m. while about eight to 10 men, identified as gang members, were gathered on the driveway at 2420 Downie Place, Porter said. A passenger in a car cruising by the driveway leaned out the window and fired four or five shots at the group and hit three men before fleeing, Porter said.
The three wounded men were taken to UCI Medical Center by their companions. The two surviving victims remained hospitalized Monday with gunshot wounds--one in a hip and the other in a leg, Porter said. The victims were not identified.
Porter described the shooting as “totally gang-related” and asked anyone with information on the incident to call the Santa Ana Police Department’s gang detail at (714) 647-5165.
