Broderbund, Random House Plan Joint Venture: Broderbund Software Inc. said it will shift its Living Books children’s software division into the venture with Random House Inc., which publishes Dr. Seuss and hundreds of other children’s books. The business, which is expected to begin operations Jan. 1, will combine Broderbund’s experience in multimedia software with the capital and immense catalogue of one of the world’s leading publishers. Novato, Calif.-based Broderbund shares were up 2 3/4, or 7%, at 39 3/4 on the NASDAQ market at triple the usual trading volume. Random House is a private company owned by Advance Publications of New York.
