America West Offers Fare Cut: America West Airlines said it will offer savings of up to 33% on leisure travel through Dec. 15 with an Oct. 27 purchase deadline. Four major carriers--American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and Continental Airlines--said they will match the cuts in competing markets. Sample round-trip fares include: Orange County-Denver, $298, reduced from $451; Los Angeles-Boston, $418 from $609, and Los Angeles-New York, $418 from $578. The program requires a 14-day advance purchase and a Saturday night stayover, with the lowest fares available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
