Katella
Coach: Dave Wilson (sixth year).
1992: Empire League and Southern Section Division II champions, third place at State Division II championships.
Key returners: Alberto Cruz, Sr.; Mike Moreno, Sr.; Reggie Ramos, Sr.; Delfino Resendiz, Sr.
Key newcomers: Edgar Benitez, So.; Mike Lopez, Jr.; Arturo Magdaleno, Jr.; Erick Miramontes, So.; Jorge Pinto, So.; Juan Venegas, So.
Outlook: One of the county’s perennial powerhouses, Katella returns four of its top seven runners from last season. Moreno is one of the finest in the state, as evidenced by his sixth-place finish at the State cross-country championships a year ago. Resendiz returns as the Southern Section Division II-A’s second-leading runner, behind only Moreno. Cruz and Ramos have big-meet experience, the latter having run 2:00 in the 800 meters. White’s quartet of sophomores will vie for the remaining three positions among the Knights’ top seven. The Cal Poly Pomona Bronco Invitational on Sept. 11 will mark the beginning of Katella’s season.
