VENTURA : Santa Barbara Man Indicted in Holdup

A Santa Barbara man tracked down through the borrowed BMW he allegedly drove has been indicted by a Los Angeles jury on federal bank robbery charges in connection with a Ventura bank heist.
Benjamin James Greenspoon, 20, is accused in the July 27 robbery of a Ventura County National Bank branch on Telephone Road in Ventura, the FBI said.
Witnesses saw the first two digits of the license plate on the luxury BMW that fled the scene, said FBI Special Agent Larry Dick. In addition, the back car window displayed a sticker promoting Harley Davidson motorcycles, Dick said.
“Not too many black 355i BMWs have Harley Davidson stickers in the window, plus we had the first two digits of the license plate,” Dick said.
Authorities spotted the car in Ventura about 10 days after the bank robbery and traced it to a Santa Barbara man, who said that Greenspoon had borrowed the car the day of the robbery, Dick said.
Greenspoon was nabbed Aug. 20 when he reported to his parole officer as scheduled for an earlier felony conviction, said Dick, who did not know what Greenspoon was convicted of previously.
The grand jury indicted Greenspoon on Tuesday. A post-indictment hearing has been scheduled for next Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.
