COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Vaught, Soto Lead Fullerton to Victory

Cal State Fullerton opened the men’s soccer season with a 3-0 victory over Oregon State Saturday in the Chiquita Invitational at Fullerton.
Mark Vaught and Eddie Soto each had a goal and an assist for Fullerton. Soto scored on a breakaway four minutes into the game. The play was set up by a long lead pass from Vaught, who scored about 16 minutes later and Fullerton led, 2-0, at the half.
Tom Helmer scored early in the second half for Fullerton, which plays North Carolina at 4 p.m. today.
Oregon State plays UCLA at 2 p.m. today. UCLA beat North Carolina, 5-3, Saturday.
In the UC Irvine Anteater women’s volleyball tournament:
Loyola Marymount 3, UC Irvine 1--Suzanne Radcliffe had 21 kills for Loyola Marymount, which won, 15-11, 15-10, 12-15, 15-5, in the title match. The Lions are 3-1.
Popi Edwards and Alison Bantel had 15 kills each for UC Irvine (2-1).
Irvine advanced to the title match with a five-game victory over Oregon earlier Saturday. Edwards had 20 kills as the Anteaters won, 15-10, 19-21, 3-15, 15-13, 15-13.
Stacy Mitchell had 19 kills and Bantel added a career-high 18 for Irvine in the victory over Oregon.
In the Concordia Labor Day Tournament:
Cal State Los Angeles wins--The Eagles beat Cal Baptist, 15-13, 15-7, 15-5, in the title match of the 16-team tournament. Korina Kemp of CSLA was selected the tournament’s most valuable player.
Genevieve Wright of Southern California was also chosen to the all-tournament team.
