COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UCI Tops Wichita State in Volleyball Opener

Alison Bentel had 13 kills as UC Irvine opened the women’s volleyball season with a three-game sweep of Wichita State in UC Irvine Anteater Invitational Friday at Crawford Hall.
Popi Edwards added nine kills for UC Irvine, which won, 15-10, 15-3, 15-6.
Becky Sutter had 13 kills for Wichita State (0-2).
Loyola Marymount beat Oregon, 15-8, 15-10, 15-11, also Friday. UC Irvine plays Oregon at noon today and Loyola Marymount at 7 p.m.
In the Fresno Invitational:
Cal State Fullerton loses twice--The Titans won the first game of the season, then dropped three in a row in a 10-15, 15-7, 16-14, 15-7 loss to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Texas A&M; then swept the Titans, 15-4, 15-2, 15-6.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
Chapman 1, Utah Westminster 1--Armando Orizaba scored in the season-opener for visiting Chapman.
