The Board of Supervisors has approved a $360,000 contract to upgrade fire safety and security at two Ventura County centers for juvenile delinquents.
Under the contract, Viola Inc. of Oxnard will install sprinkler and fire alarm systems and remodel restrooms for handicapped users.
“Right now we don’t have any sprinklers, and we’ve had the same fire alarm system for 20 years,” said Richard Humeston, division manager at the Clifton Tatum Center, an 84-bed maximum-security detention facility.
In addition, lights will be installed in all the cells, Humeston said.
