Whitson Takes Junior Golf Title by Four Strokes

Nate Whitson of Ventura fired rounds of 71 and 77 to win the Ventura County junior golf championship by four shots this week in Camarillo.
Whitson edged Darren Humphrey of Newbury Park, who had rounds of 78-74--152 at Spanish Hills Golf and Country Club and Las Posas Country Club. Scott Porter of Newbury Park was third at 155.
The event was the last of the summer for the Ventura County Junior Golf Assn.
The Master’s College will hold its second golf tournament Nov. 6 at Vista Valencia Golf Course.
Entry fee is $100 per player with proceeds benefiting the school’s athletic program.

Baseball
Spiro Psaltis, an assistant the past six seasons at Glendale High, has been named to replace Chris Axelgard as the Dynamiters’ coach.
Axelgard resigned at the end of the season to attend graduate school.
Football
Crescenta Valley High quarterback Dave Fielder may miss the Falcons’ opening game next Friday because of a sprained left ankle. Fielder, also an All-Southern Section punter, is expected back by the second game.
