Former Cranston Securities Co. Exec Wins $4.44 Million: Danny J. Bakewell Sr., former president and chief operating officer of the company, said the National Assn. of Securities Dealers awarded him that amount as his share of an earlier award made by Prescott, Ball & Turben to Robert C. Kanuth Jr., Cranston’s former chairman. PBT bought Cranston in 1987 and was later ordered by the NASD to pay Kanuth $38.2 million for breach of contract and other damages related to the buyout. Bakewell then sued Kanuth, alleging that the two men had previously agreed to share some of Kanuth’s award. Kanuth paid Bakewell the $4.44 million last week, said Fred Fudacz, Bakewell’s attorney.
