Kristine Quance of Northridge won the 400 individual medley Friday in the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Kobe, Japan.
Quance posted a time of 4 minutes 39.25 seconds to edge U.S. teammate Allison Wagner (4:41.22).
Quance’s time is the fastest in the world this year, 0.30 faster than the winning time at the European Championships posted last week by Barcelona Olympic gold medalist Kristina Egerszegi of Hungary. The victory avenged a loss to Wagner two weeks ago in the national championships.
Tennis
Jason Weiss’ bid to reach the boys’ 16-and-under singles finals in the U.S. Tennis Assn.’s national junior championships fell short.
Weiss of Calabasas, seeded 13th, lost to fourth-seeded Ryan Walters of San Jose, 6-1, 6-3, in the semifinals at Kalamazoo, Mich. Weiss was the only local player remaining in the main singles draw of the six age-group tournaments throughout the United States.
The fourth-seeded team of Meilen Tu of Northridge and Karen Miller of Bradenton, Fla., lost in the girls’ 18 semifinals to Amber Basica (Lomita) and Nicole London (Redondo Beach), 6-0, 6-1, in San Jose.
Basketball

Track and Field
