Costa Mesa’s Venegas Wins Scratch Main

COSTA MESA — Charlie Venegas of Costa Mesa won his first scratch main event of the year Friday at the weekly speedway motorcycle racing program at the Orange County Fairgrounds.

Venegas was a wire-to-wire winner, easily beating second-place Brad Oxley of San Juan Capistrano. Steve Lucero of Riverside finished third and Mike Faria of Apple Valley fourth.

Bobby Schwartz of Costa Mesa won the eight-lap handicap main event and Shawn McConnell of Brea was second. Oxley was third, Ed Castro of Ojai fourth, and Don Odom of Redondo Beach fifth.
