BUENA PARK — A 2-year-old boy was in critical condition Friday night after he ran into the street in front of his home and was hit by a pickup truck.
Oscar Figueroa was airlifted to UCI Medical Center in Orange shortly after the 6:10 p.m. accident in the 6500 block of Thelma Avenue, said Buena Park police Lt. Jim Schoales.
The boy was unsupervised at the time of the accident. His mother was away from the home and his father was inside the house, Schoales said.
“The driver of the truck never saw the boy and did not know she hit anyone until she was alerted by her husband and children, who were riding in the back of the truck,” Schoales said.
Schoales said the driver of the truck was traveling slower than the 25 m.p.h. speed limit and lives in the neighborhood.
The incident is under investigation.
