HUNTINGTON BEACH — A woman in a stolen car led a patrol officer on a brief, high-speed chase Friday in opposite lanes of traffic before she crashed and was arrested, police said.
Officer Kurt Svahn saw a car speeding east along Pacific Coast Highway north of Golden West Street about 3:15 p.m., police said. The driver, identified as Angelique Dawn Wilson, 21, of Huntington Beach, briefly crossed over into the opposite lanes of traffic at Golden West Street and hit a car that was stopped for the red signal, said Lt. Jeff Cope. No one in the car was injured.
Wilson continued in the opposite lanes of traffic, nearly hitting a second car, until she came to 14th Street, where she apparently lost control of the car and crashed into a fence, Cope said.
Wilson and her passenger, Daniel Robert Wilson, 19, ran from the car, Cope said. They were both arrested a short distance away. Police said Daniel Wilson is a transient and it was unclear if he was related to the driver.
Both were booked into Huntington Beach City Jail for auto theft, Cope said. The driver was booked on the additional charge of felony evading arrest, Cope said.
