Two Mediterranean fruit flies have been found in the Granada Hills-Mission Hills area, about eight miles outside a Medfly quarantine area, a spokesman said Thursday.
Medfly Cooperative Project crews found a mature, unmated female near Tuba Street and Gaviota Avenue, said spokesman Larry Hawkins. Another fly was found a mile and a half away at Index Street and Dempsey Avenue, Hawkins said. The Medflies were the first found since three were trapped in Walnut Park last Dec. 8.
