LOS ANGELES COUNTY : 1st King Trial Prosecutor Named Grand Jury Liaison
- Share via
Terry L. White, lead prosecutor in the state’s unsuccessful case against the police officers who beat Rodney G. King, has a new assignment as district attorney’s liaison to the Los Angeles County grand jury.
He will take over the two-year post today from Deputy Dist. Atty. David Guthman when a new 23-member grand jury is sworn in. Guthman will head a new insurance fraud division.
White, 36, gained international fame when he was assigned to the King beating case along with another deputy district attorney. The case ended with not guilty verdicts on all counts except one on which the jury deadlocked. Two officers were later convicted in federal court of violating King’s civil rights.
White will advise the grand jury on legal matters and help other prosecutors organize and present their cases.
