VAN NUYS : Agency Gets $109,671 for Energy Efficiency

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has awarded the U.S. General Services Administration with a check for $109,671 in recognition of a 55% reduction in energy consumption at the Van Nuys federal building.

The General Services Administration will save an estimated $75,000 a year as a result of the increased efficiency.

The federal and city agencies worked together to reduce power use at the building, marking their first joint effort since Vice President Al Gore mandated that federal agencies reduce their energy consumption.

The savings were achieved by replacing the building’s light fixtures with energy efficient fluorescent lamps, installing a reflector system in many of the fixtures in order to use less light and adding motion sensors to shut off lights in empty offices.
