A 65-year-old Tarzana woman was killed on her bicycle Friday when a car veered onto the shoulder of the Ventura Freeway and struck her in the bicycle lane, the California Highway Patrol said.
Shirley Glenn Long died from head and internal injuries, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. She was hit by the car at 12:47 p.m. near La Conchita, police said.
The car’s driver, 18-year-old Eryn Poulton of Ventura, was driving south on the freeway at 60 m.p.h. when her attention was diverted, police said. When Poulton looked back at the roadway, her car had drifted on to the shoulder and she struck Long in the bike lane, police said.
CHP officials did not say whether charges would be filed.
