Mary Rooney Named Interim City Manager in Hermosa Beach

The Hermosa Beach City Council has appointed Assistant City Manager Mary Rooney as interim city manager, filling the post that Frederick R. Ferrin will vacate July 1.
Rooney, 34, has worked for the city for nine years. She will earn $6,563 a month, a 10% raise, in the new position. Although the council is expected to seek applicants for the city manager’s job, Rooney is considered a strong candidate for the post.
“Mary has just been superlative,” said Ferrin, who recommended that the council appoint her to the interim position. “She has incredible energy. She can get just a tremendous amount done. She is absolutely selfless in the dedication of her time to the city.”
Said Councilman Robert Essertier: “You give any job to Mary Rooney and the thing gets done.”
Ferrin, who came to the city about one year ago, will leave June 30 for the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, a state government job in which he will oversee the certification of hospital and nursing home construction projects.
