Three people, including a 2-year-old girl, were shot during an apparent family dispute in a Newhall apartment complex Saturday, authorities said.
For about five hours after the 4 p.m. shootings, police believed that the suspected gunman, Jose Luis Diaz, had barricaded himself in the apartment building in the 2700 block of 14th Street.
Three men were taken into custody when they left the building about 9 p.m., but authorities were unsure whether Diaz, a restaurant worker, was among them. Sheriff’s officials said a search of the building did not yield Diaz.
Authorities said the child had been shot in the head and was in serious condition at Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles. The other victims were a 31-year-old man, treated for a knee wound at Henry Mayo Hospital in Newhall and released, and a 30-year-old woman, in fair condition at the hospital with leg wounds.
