CIF to Award Participation Medals in Lieu of State Track and Field Meet

The CIF track and field committee resolved the matter of State meet awards by announcing Tuesday that it will give all finals qualifiers special medals of participation. Saturday’s rains forced cancellation of the finals for the first time in the meet’s 75-year history.
The move did nothing to curb the disappointment of the athletes, however.
“A medal of participation?” asked Marina’s Tony Parrish, who had the leading qualifying mark in the triple jump. “I mean, that’s weak. That’s real weak.”
The committee also announced that all records set in Friday’s preliminaries will be accepted.
