Man, 54, Dies After Beating; Son Held

BUENA PARK — A 54-year-old Buena Park man who was allegedly beaten by his son Friday has died at UCI Medical Center in Orange, police said Monday.
Rudolpho M. Gonzales died of his injuries Sunday night, authorities said. Acme M. Mendoza, 29, who was being held in connection with the beating, was booked on suspicion of murder after his father’s death.
Buena Park Police Lt. James Schoales said that the two, who lived together in an apartment in the 7300 block of 9th Street, had a dispute Friday about 10:45 p.m. over the son’s girlfriend.
Gonzales apparently made “some comments about the girlfriend that the son didn’t like,” Schoales said. Neighbors heard the two men arguing and called police.
By the time officers arrived, Gonzales was lying unconscious on the floor. He was taken to UCI Medical Center.
