Your article on the White House travel office flap (May 22) must have plunged a dagger into the hearts of your auditors.
I bet it came as a huge surprise to you (giggle, giggle) to realize that reporters don’t care if their newspapers are overbilled. To quote: “And if, as White House officials have suggested, they (the travel office) overbilled the press in the process, reporters were quick to admit they did not care, since the money involved was not theirs, but their employers.” One reporter said, “Who cares about the money, they took good care of us.”
Could these be the same reporters who spew forth pious jeremiads about waste and fraud in government? So much for journalistic ethics, to coin an oxymoron.
