Landlord’s Failure to Maintain Units

* May I suggest to Judge James Brooks that in lieu of Mr. Salceda’s 90 days of incarceration, he instead be made to dwell in his own apartment building.
If Mr. Salceda is losing money each year on the dwelling and that is his excuse for not maintaining the building, then maybe he should sell the building instead.
Also, if Mr. Salceda was so convinced that the building was maintained to codes, he should have welcomed visits by city officials to check his building.
Hopefully, this ruling will show other landlords that intolerable living conditions will be addressed and not swept under the rug any longer.
